Who does Jacques Goldstyn write for?

Who does Jacques Goldstyn write for?

“What age is this book for?”

I get asked this question all the time.
And rightly so, most of the time. Every reader develops at their own pace, and a very advanced 10-year-old reader may not necessarily have the maturity to handle young adult novels whose themes could shock them.

But!
Let’s take the opposite example.

Jelani, 25, borrowed almost every book by author-illustrator Jacques Goldstyn from the Caribou Library, and finally asked me very seriously:

Who does Jacques Goldstyn write for?

It made me smile.
Is a so-called “children’s author” really just for kids?

Goldstyn has this unique way of telling a story, rooted in social reflection, illustrated with such care that he gives you time to let it all sink in. The words are never overwhelming. The details in the drawings make you pause. And think. And read again to discover even more.

I’ve enjoyed every book of his I’ve read.

Jelani is learning French. Yet Goldstyn already speaks to him, touches him.

Goldstyn, a children’s author? Yes. But also an author for anyone who still feels curiosity, tenderness, or wonder. A universal author.

Would you like to discover Jacques Goldstyn, too? Come this way.

And there are others.
So categorizing a book by age group sometimes limits us more than it guides us.
