Viola Irene Davis was born in 1914 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to an African-descendant father and a white mother. She was raised with values of mutual aid and solidarity which will influence her future plans. She studied hairdressing in Montreal, then in New York where she developed her own aesthetic products intended for black-skinned women. Viola becomes a seasoned businesswoman, she owns several beauty and hair salons in Nova Scotia. But one day, in a movie theater in Sydney, she sits in a section reserved for Whites and gets arrested. Passionate about justice, Viola will not let herself be defeated, but this racial event will change her life forever.
