Margaret begs her father to let her go to the foreigners' school. He ends up accepting. But first, he warns his daughter: as water shapes stone, strangers will shape her mind and make it narrow.
At boarding school, Margaret soon met the Raven, a nun with a hooked nose and long, bony fingers like talons. Very quickly, the Raven runs into the strong-tempered girl. To show her how much she dislikes her, the Raven distributes gray stockings to all the girls... except Margaret who receives bright red ones. The girl immediately becomes the laughing stock of the whole school.
