Madeleine’s grandmother has been knitting ever since she was a little girl. She’s made scarves for her brother who went off to war, socks to keep her loved ones’ toes warm, and mittens, beanies, and hats. But the piece she’s most proud of is her very first scarf, which she gives to Madeleine. Delighted, the little girl wraps it around her neck before heading off to school, without noticing that a strand of yarn has gotten caught on the door of the house.
